Historical Document Search

The Winslow Farr Sr. Family Organization is continuing our search for more Farr family historical documents. We have collected many documents, which are in the BYU library L. Tom Perry Special Collections, or the LDS Church Historical Department.  You can see what we have found by going to the respective links on the Historical Documents menu item on our website. The Church Historical Department in SLC also has a number of documents. You can see the lists on our website.

We have a recent example of documents being donated to the WFO. In 2012, Craig Farr found the “Farr Family Temple book” in a collection of old books in his mother’s home. The volume contains many old records of temple work done by Lorin Farr and Winslow Farr Jr. with several original written Patriarchal Blessings given by Lorin Farr to relatives in Mexico. The papers were carefully tucked into the back of the book.  Craig knew the book was in the possession of his great grandfather, John Farr, and “lost” since John died in 1958. Craig and his family believe the book and documents belong in a collection and decided to donate them to the Winslow Farr Sr. Family Organization. The WFO then received a donation from BYU to place the documents in their Special Collections. When the book is scanned by BYU, we intend to put example pages onto the historical document section of our website.

We feel that perhaps the missing five volumes of Lorin Farr’s daily journals may be with some living family member. Craig Farr, Vice President of Collections, is in charge of this project and will personally contact family members as we obtain leads to living descendants who may have the diaries. Cindy Treu, a gifted genealogical researcher and teacher, will facilitate the search by providing down line names acquired thru research on Family Tree and other genealogical web sites and assembled in a Roots Magic database. One of the primary lines we will be searching is Mary Farr Driver (George Driver) daughter of Lorin and Nicoline Erickson as we suspect documents were handed down thru this line.

We would like to find those plus any other documents in the possession of families in our Farr down lines. Fortunately, we have acquired the Winslow Farr Jr. diaries, which are periodically sent by email in small chapters to Winslow Farr Sr. Family Organization members.

There are a number of ways for the Winslow Farr Sr. Family Organization to acquire documents.

  • Donate them to our tax-exempt organization and receive the benefit of a tax deduction. This is the way we have acquired all of our documents, which were then donated to LDS Church libraries, or
  •  We could consider buying them from you

Of course, you could copy or scan any documents for your family.

We would appreciate receiving any tips regarding historical documents from any the Winslow and Olive Farr family lines. If you have any knowledge of historical documents that may be available to add to our collections, please contact us Craig Farr crinda@verizon.net (1-215-915-6662) or Dave Farr djfarr@cox.net (1-949-582-1852).
